Governor Wise's (Virginia, Civil War) egg nog recipe (the very best egg nog ever!)
Governor Wise’s Eggnog recipe (Virginia, during the civil war)
1 qt. brandy (or 1 ltr.)
1 pt. Jamaican rum ( or ½ ltr.)
4 oz. bourbon (100 to 125 grams)
2 doz. separated eggs
1.5 lbs. pwd. sugar ( 680 grams)
1 gal. cream (3 & 3.4 ltrs.)
Beat yolks till lemon colored.
Add sugar.
Mix brandy & rum & add VERY SLOWLY & MIX
CONSTANTLY (drip!)
Drip in cream
mixing constantly.
Mixing constantly beat egg whites till stiff & fold in.
Lastly add bourbon.
Sprinkle nutmeg on top.
